President and CEO
In addition to providing strategic and technical direction, Neil is the firm’s product evangelist and acting Head of Sales. He is passionate about client success and remains very involved with engagements. Prior to founding Covariant, Neil worked as a senior R&D advisor at Software AG and was instrumental in both database and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) development. His vision was that of delivering robust software solutions which precisely met customer business needs and requirements, while leveraging their existing investments. Through this pursuit, he formed numerous relationships with customers and partners which now directly contribute to Covariant’s success. Also during this time, Neil was active in promoting solution benefits and of a particular technical nature, exploiting security functionality within the products he helped create. Prior to Software AG, Neil worked for Rolls Royce Aero Engines where he solved complex design problems and worked with partners to introduce third-party technology to the company. Neil holds a B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Southampton (UK). Outside of work, Neil enjoys spending time with friends and family, international travel, music and painting.
Chief Operating Officer
Karen is responsible for various functions including corporate and business development, mergers and acquisitions, financial management, deal structuring and business planning. Prior to joining Covariant, Karen founded an executive consulting business and later became affiliated with The Pelion Group of Virginia and First Liberties Financial, a member FINRA/SIPC, as Executive Vice President where she initiated and closed their largest transaction to date. At webMethods Inc., (later acquired by Software AG), Karen served in the role of SVP, Corporate Development after founding the firm’s first corporate development and strategy teams. In addition to these executive roles, Karen has held senior management positions at leading enterprise software firms in various areas of responsibility with a concentration in business development and strategic alliances. Karen holds the degree of B.S. Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at The University of Virginia. Outside of work, Karen enjoys spending time with her family, volunteerism, outdoor water activities, travel, and teaching piano.
Chief Information Officer
Karl is responsible for IT direction and management, inclusive of Covariant’s internal development and test systems. He has over 30 years of experience in the IT industry within professional services, systems programming, network management (DNS, DHCP and IPAM) and project management as a systems architect, lead engineer and senior consultant. Karl's leadership experience includes management of software development teams and a division of Advania, an IT Services company. Specific industries where Karl has gained his experience include government, service bureaus, and financial services with concentrations in credit card management and investment banking. Karl holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Iceland. Outside of work, Karl enjoys spending time with his family and is a car enthusiast with a particular interest in muscle era models. He enjoys outdoor activities and is an avid cyclist.
